'The liveliest, funniest dialogue written yet by Mr McPherson.' THE NEW YORK TIMES

Conor McPherson, the award-winning Irish playwright (The Weir, Shining City), is back with another hilarious and unsettling tale.

Magnificently atmospheric and superbly funny, The Seafarer takes place on Christmas Eve in a miserable living room in a coastal town north of Dublin. Hard drinker Sharkey returns home to look after his blind brother. He attempts a Christmas off the booze, but has to contend with his brother, two old drinking buddies and an enigmatic stranger as the men wind each other up and get wild on whiskey. As the drink flows, a poker game ensues, the night wears on and the stakes get dangerously high.

With a theatrical flourish, the night builds inexorably towards its unexpected and enthralling conclusion.

The Seafarer is Mark Babych's valedictory production, the last in a remarkable line of work by Irish playwrights: Lonesome West, A Skull in Connemara, The Weir and Shining City.

Please note: This play contains frequent use of strong language.
